Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is known as Mr. Perfectionist by his fans and cinephiles. With his powerful acting, Aamir has won the hearts of the audience many times. His films often make massive box-office earnings. It is also commonly heard that he charges a hefty fee for his roles. However, he recently shared at an event that for the past 20 years, he has not taken any fee as an actor.

Aamir Khan reveals how he is making money

At the ABP event Ideas of India 2025, Aamir Khan spoke on various topics. During the conversation, he revealed that he has not taken any fees as an actor for the last 20 years. Instead, he earns only if the film performs well. Aamir said, “Pichle 20-1 sal se mai fee nahi leta film karne ki. Toh agar apko film pasand aati hai to main kamata huin, aur agar nahi, to mai bhi nahi kamata (From the last 20 years, I have stopped taking film fees as an actor.I only earn if the film does well).”

Sharing the unit economics and cost of production per film, Aamir admitted that he generally hopes a film makes at least Rs. 20-30 crores to recover its production costs. He further explained, “If the production is mounted on Rs. 200 crores, and the star charges a certain amount, and the film flops, how do you recover the cost of production?”

Aamir continued, “Main oldest tareeka kamani ka follow krat huin, isliye mujhe boht freedom hai, to main experiment kar pata hun,(I follow the oldest method of earning that any performing artist can). This is still practiced in Europe widely”. He added that this no-fee model helps him tackle difficult subject matters in his films.

Aamir has given many blockbuster films in his career, including Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Dil, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Andaz Apna Apna, Rangeela, Raja Hindustani, Sarfarosh, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, PK, Dangal, Secret Superstar, Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini, Dhoom 3, and PK ) among others.

Meanwhile, he will be next seen in Sitaare Zameen Par with Genelia Deshmukh. The sports drama film is directed by R. S. Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. The film is a sequel to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, it is a remake of the Spanish film Champions.
